Cream Cheese Filled Sticky Buns

Ingredients

  • 1 package active dry yeast
  • 3 tablespoons warm water
  • 1 cup soymilk or coconut creamer
  • ¼ cup, vegan butter, divided
  • 1 tablespoon Follow Your Heart VeganEgg, powder
  • 2 cups un-bleached organic all-purpose flour¼ cup ice-cold water
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 tablespoon evaporated cane sugar
  • ½ teaspoon sea salt

  • 1/2 cup maple syrup
  • 2 rounded tablespoons vegan butter
  • ¼ cup evaporated cane sugar
  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Follow Your Heart Vegan Gourmet Cream Cheese
  • 1 tablespoon soymilk or coconut creamer

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, add yeast and warm water, whisk gently. Set aside to let yeast blossom, about 5 minutes.
  2. In a small pot, heat almond milk and 2 tablespoons butter until just warm.  Set aside.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine VeganEgg powder and ice-cold water. Whisk until slightly thickened and uniform. Set aside.
  4. Whisk together flours, sugar, salt together in a large bowl.  Add milk and yeast mixtures to flour. Gently stir, to incorporate. Add VeganEgg mixture and knead until mixture forms a dough ball.
  5. On a floured board, knead dough until smooth and elastic, about 7-10 minutes, by hand.  Place dough in a bowl, and coat in neutral tasting oil.  Cover and let rise until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
  6. Roll dough out into a large rectangle shape on a floured cutting board.
  7. In a small pan, heat remaining butter until melted. Set aside.    Brush rectangle of dough with melted butter and sugar, cinnamon and salt. Spoon cream cheese in a long line 2 inches from the base of the roll. Roll rectangle along long edge into a coil. Cut into 12 1-inch rounds and place rounds on a greased walled baking dish, spacing about ½ inch apart.
  8. Cover and let rise until rounds are almost doubled in size, about 30 minutes.
  9. Brush lightly with melted butter.
  10. Meanwhile, Preheat oven to 350° and bake for 30 minutes or until golden brown.

To make glaze

  1. Heat a small pot over medium heat. Add maple, butter and sugar. Cook until bubbling vigorously, about 3-4 minutes. Remove from heat. Drizzle over warm rounds.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk powdered sugar, cream cheese, and creamer. Drizzle over slightly cooled rolls.
